Balboa Island (Ðảo Balboa)
Ðảo Balboa là một bán đảo nhân tạo nằm ngay bên cạnh thành phố Newport Beach. Trên đảo có nhiều shopping, tiệm bán đồ lưu niệm, nhà hàng, tiệm bán quần áo ... Phong cảnh trên đảo Balboa sẽ đem lại cho gia đình bạn một ngày nghỉ rất đáng nhớ.
Bạn có thể qua đảo Balboa bằng đường Pacific Coast Highway, hoặc bạn cũng có thể dùng phà để đi qua kênh. Mỗi chuyến phà có thể chứa được ba đến bốn chiếc xe và khoảng 40 hành khách.
Phà qua đảo Balboa đã hoạt động liên tục từ năm 1919. Chuyến đi qua kênh dài khoảng một phần tư dặm và thường mất 10 phút kể cả thời gian lên tàu.
Balboa Island is an harborside community located in Newport Beach, California, accessible to the public via bridge, ferry and several public docks. The community is surrounded by a paved concrete boardwalk open to pedestrian traffic, designated as a public walking trail by the city.
There are several ways to get between Balboa Island and Newport Beach Peninsula. Balboa Island is accessible via a bridge from Bayside Dr and the popular PCH (pacific coast highway/route 1) which runs parallel to Bayside, but you can also get from one to the other via a ferry which takes people, cars and bikes crosses the channel. Each ferry takes three to four cars and can carry around 40 passengers. The ride is inexpensive if you board on foot, but isn’t expensive even with a car (passengers in cars pay the walk-on fee). Bicycles, motorcycles and dogs on leash are permitted, too.
The Balboa Island Car Ferry is a ferry service in Newport Beach has operated continuously since 1919. The ferry boats travel under 1,000 feet from Balboa Island to the Balboa Peninsula and vice versa, reaching a top speed of four miles per hour. The trip across the bay is about a quarter of a mile and takes usually 10 minutes including boarding time. The speed limit in the harbor is 5 miles per hour, and the ferry docks about every 5 minutes.
There are usually several ferry boats running back and forth to lessen the wait for a ride. While taking a car across is one popular method of enjoying this experience, we recommend you 'hoof it'. Park your car on the peninsula side for ease of parking. If you have kids with you, the Balboa Fun Zone is right next to the ferry dock on the peninsula. Once on the island take a walk along Bay Front. It’s an easy stroll with lots to look at.
There’s a public dock to break up your walk, beautiful benches surrounded by flower pots where you can sit and gaze at the boats gliding by, and in a few minutes, you arrive on Marine Avenue, the heart of shopping and dining for Balboa Island.
